An exciting new addition for the company is a collection of Florence Broadhurst fabrics. Florence Broadhurst was an influential Australian singer, artist and businesswoman born in rural Queensland in 1899.
She started out as a comedian and performer, touring Asia and after an extended period abroad, established the Broadhurst Academy in Shanghai. The academy provided tuition for performance art, music and journalism.
In the ‘50’s after returning to Australia, Florence established a business called Australian Wallpapers, where she collaborated on hand-painted bright, exaggerated designs inspired by geometric shapes and natural imagery.
Florence Broadhurst was found dead in her studio in 1977, having been struck with a piece of timber by an unknown assailant. Her murderer was never caught however one theory is that she was a victim of John Wayne Glover, one of Australia’s most notorious serial killers.
Broadhurst’s designs have now been applied to beautiful curtain fabrics being offered by CurtainWorld in Australia. A selection can be seen below –
Stunning aren’t they?
