Affectionately known as ‘The Hamptons of Scotland’, the East Lothian coastline is where everyone really wants to live. Laid back, friendly, with stunning beaches and great schools… It’s where we live, of course and big news in our neck of the woods – a new show home has opened at Walker Group’s Glen Ora development in North Berwick. I have been very curious…
I knew that Walker Homes were planning to add a retro, off-beat note to this development. Featuring this season’s hottest trend in warm metals and Pantone’s new colours for 2016: rose quartz and serenity in abundance. I nipped down as soon as I could and I was not disappointed.
Strong colours bring a feeling of calmness and tranquillity to the impressive Brampton, a five bedroom family home. The designers, Kabe, have mixed iconic, 1950s design with the latest in hip, contemporary interiors.
The heart of the Brampton is the large open plan kitchen with dining area and a snug family room. French doors open out to the garden, which will be a joy to tend, when you are not on beach walks or pottering around the fabulous independent shops and art galleries, which line the High street of this pretty coastal town.
Bold fun touches such as a huge SMEG American fridge and copper pendant light shades mix beautifully with the on-trend duck egg units and washed oak floors, for a delightfully home spun look.
A distressed copper tile wallpaper adds to the laid back appeal of the snug area which has a pale grey squashy corner sofa, perfect for flopping down on and catching up on movies and favourite TV shows.
The lounge is more formal and elegant, ideal for entertaining. Whispery shades of grey are complemented by copper light fittings for a modern twist on a traditional drawing room.
The study, complete with an old fashioned drawing board, wallpaper patterned with feather quills, a vintage leather armchair and artisan furniture, is a perfect retreat for dreaming up your next creative project. I just love the velvet ‘ombre’ blind…
The master bedroom is soothing, with its soft green and rose quartz colourway, while the baby’s room has a whimsical butterfly wallpaper and lots of eye-catching accessories.
Sandy Casey, Director Walker Group, has said: “We wanted to create a showhome which would reflect the artisan feel of North Berwick, recently named one of the top ten coolest seaside towns in the UK”. This is no surprise, with it’s picturesque harbour, lots of buzzing cafes and gourmet delis, a traditional sweet shop even, an ice cream parlour and a choice of fab restaurants, it really is the place to be.
“Kabe have created a wonderful home, which has a really warm, lived in feel which I am sure will appeal to buyers who want all the style and originality of a traditional property but with the convenience of a warm, energy efficient modern home. Designed to be family friendly, the development will feature bicycle paths for safer cycling when complete.”
Glen Ora features a collection of three, four and five bedroom family homes, with prices in the current phase from £340,000 for the four bedroom Kidston house-type. The Brampton starts from £390,000. The new showhome will be open from Thursday to Monday from 11am to 5.30pm.
