Edinburgh Penthouse

Head East from the centre of Edinburgh and you very soon hit water. In recent years, ambitious developments have been built in the area, to take advantage of the sea views. A lot of the apartments were sold as shells and bold, imaginative buyers were able to take them on and do whatever they wanted! The area is peaceful and quiet, surrounded by the sea…

The Edge

Here is a new home and some! I was saying in my last post that Artwork is such a wonderful finishing touch to a home. This house is a work of art though…it hardly needs art to finish it off…

The Edge is a stunning home designed and built by its owners on the edge of a cliff in Dumfriesshire. It is in the latest issue of Good Housekeeping magazine – do buy it to find out more…

It is for sale actually with Strutt and Parker…have a peek and think about it…when I spoke to Carole earlier this evening she was working away on her laptop, with a red squirrel looking in on her and that sea view in front of her. The house wants for nothing, it is regularly used for fashion shoots and film locations. Here it is used as a location for Marble

Carole and her partner are adventurers though and he loves to sail, so New Zealand is beckoning…

Grand Design

Gorgeous feature in this months Grand Designs Magazine…had, had, had to share!

It’s the renovation we all want to do – buy an ordinary house, in a pretty spot and transform it into something spectacular.

You need vision to do something like this – imagination and a can-do attitude are essential. A budget that is not too tight is helpful as well or a lot of skill and buckets of time – a very able builder who does not need to work could probably do this…

Do not try if you have a full time job, three children under five and would be uncertain how to put an Ikea shelving unit together.

Thank you to Grand Designs Magazine and the visionary, imaginative owner, Marion Venman, for sharing – Douglas will never forget the little foxes on the day of the shoot, who play in your garden!

Laura Ashley – Go with the throw!

Lovely to get a mention on the Laura Ashley Blog…I was asked among 15 Bloggers to come up with a use for the throw…as it was the middle of winter, a lot of us suggested wrapping yourself up in it and drinking Hot Chocolate – unsurprisingly!

As a brand Laura Ashley constantly re-invent themselves and always think outside the box – anyone who thinks of them as the ‘girls blouse’ of interior design needs to think again and take a fresh look at their twenty-first century products.

Exterior with curved zinc roof

We photographed this fabulous Highland home, the owner’s son works as a designer for Laura Ashley, so they had a really up to the minute take on the brand…

I love the mirrored furniture, the Geisha cushion, the duck egg stool, the chaise, the bedside lamps and mirror…all Laura Ashley!

Footballer’s Lives

I am sorry, I think I need a wee break from re-cycling and salvaging for now…thought I would just indulge in a bit of sheer bling…Doug shot this house when it belonged to a Scottish Premiership Player…lie back and enjoy…no expense spared…nothing has been ‘upcycled’…
